“What’s up Raleigh, N.C.”!

Soulfully as anticipated Avery Sunshine booming voice rang through the concert hall, and just like that, the 22-city NuSoul Revival Tour kicked off on Friday, February 4th at the Duke Energy Center in Raleigh, NC.

This show features the eclectic talents of the aforementioned Avery Sunshine, followed by the very soulful and wonderfully talented duet Kindred the Family Soul, R & B singer Lyfe Jennings and the one and only Musiq Soulchild.

Avery starts off the show flowing through her catalog of hits ranging from the beginning “Ugly Part of Me” from her 2010 self-titled release to “Call My Name” to “Come Do Nothing”. She even managed to touch on some soon to be hits from her soon to be release project “2064”. As lead off, Avery holds nothing back, putting ALL of her soul into each one of her songs. Great way to start a show! Keeping the energy level up was left in the hands of that spiritual duo Kindred the Family Soul. This Philly Soul married duo of Fatin Dantzler and Aja Graydon did not disappoint! Smoothly moving from song to song from their catalogue they made sure to give the audience what they wanted. Singing their most popular songs “Where Would I Be”, “Stars” and my favorite “Far Away”. Their chemistry and banter with the audience made for a very pleasant set.

Next up was the ladies favorite Lyfe Jennings. Lyfe, skillfully and sometimes comically wove a lovely web through bits and pieces of his surprisingly long list of hits. Making sure to take his time with crowd favorites “S.E.X., “Let’s Stay Together” and “Must Be Nice”. Taking the crowd over the “musical cliff” was none other than Musiq SoulChild. In his roughly 45 minute set, Musiq had us up dancing in the seats with his hits “Just Friends” (Sunny) and “Buddy”. Slow dragging and falling in love again with his ballads “Don’t Change” “So Beautiful” and “Love”, and swooning from side to side with “Girl Next Door” and “Halfcrazy”. Musiq also made sure to keep us singing along with him citing he didn’t have any back up singers so we were all hired for the night.
