Welcome to the Terror Dome.
Things have been a bit crazy this past week. You had Remy Ma and Nicki Minaj clapping at each other. I also saw Remy being fact checked on things she said about Nicki. Ebro Darden denies that he ever slept with Nicki and took it to twitter of course:
Remy said what she said and Nicki went silent on us. Remy Ma said she responded in 48 hours on her dis-track “ShEther.” Remy told Nicki “You stole that line about bitches being your sons. How you take my ’09 jail tweet and run. Talkin’ ‘bout bringing knives to a fight with guns. When the only shot you ever took was in your buns.”
Nicki posted up an Instagram posting from Beyoncé that proves she is the Queen….ummmm. I even had a discussion with someone that said Remy bringing Hip-Hip back. I had to side-eye that response just a bit, but then again, I am not a Remy Ma fan, hell, I am not a Nicki fan either. I don’t like the fact that females going head to head with each other and all they can come up with is who slept with who, who go the biggest record sales, who is the biggest bitch, who is the Queen…blah blah blah. At the end of the day, everyone trying to get paid from someone. All this beefing is not a good look among the women folk. You be the judge of the fierceness of Remy’s lyrics.
Rachel Dolezal was in the news.
She was the white woman who claims she “identifies as being black.” Remember when her parents told the world she was white, and not black like she claimed to be? The same woman was also a president of a branch of the NAACP. Now somewhere in the deep recesses of my mind I think that she truly believes she is a black woman, as crazy as that sounds. I think that if she was “playing black” she would have quit us by now. To solidify her claims of blackness, she has officially changed her name…to Nkechi Amare Diallo. Now let’s break down this name change. The “Nkechi” is of Nigerian origin and means “gift of god.” The name “Diallo” is of Guinea and Senegal origin and it means “bold.” So, her name in essence means, a “bold gift of god.” Bold is an understatement. Now, I personally love playing devil’s advocate for topics like this. I love to see the dialogue that happens when I introduce a thought that may come from the other side of the street. I had a discussion with my son and he said it is appropriation of our culture. I told him what if she really feels she is black and it is not a fad to her. What do we call it then? The owner of awesomelyluvvie.com said this about Rachael: “Rachel the Appropriation Aristocrat then had a son and named him Langston Attickus, which has to go down as one of the Blackest names in history. That name is so Black that it comes with a Jazz band.” Now that makes me laugh out loud for real. What makes a white person want to, as my mother says in her most famous of lines “They don’t want to be LIKE you, they want to BE YOU!” It is a mystery that even with this book that Rachel has coming out soon, I don’t think we are going to know what goes on inside her mind.
And this brings me to my last story of this post…
On Tuesday, January 3rd it was announced that Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar and Radiohead was to headline Coachella this year. The festival is running the weekends of April 14-16 and April 21-23 of this year. In February, it was announced that Lady Gaga would now be taking Beyoncé’s place. See, Beyoncé performed at the Grammy awards this year and was breathing all hard when she was making her speech. She was like, forget all that, I can’t do it Jay, this one is real…my body is failing me. Damn right, I don’t know any woman that can perform while 7 month pregnant with twins. When you have a surrogate carrier the first time, yes, you can perform with a fake stomach attached to you. But when you have real passengers riding in cargo, they will shut that all the way down. All jokes aside, we all await to see what these babies will look like. Don’t forget to take your vitamins Bey.
